What can be done to avoid a depression in the first place?

When the economic theories of the Classical Economist were not sufficient to put an end to the Great Depression of the 1930s, government leaders began to look for other ideas to help end the problem and came across Keynesian economics.

What can be done to avoid a depression in the first place?

Apple, learn to read. She was referring to an economic depression, not a mental one. Yeesh. Trying to come off as so smart but end up discussing the wrong thing.

I really do not think there is much we can do to avoid a depression to be quite frank. We can as a society be less greedy and try to cut back but that does not always work. With over 300 million Americans alone it takes one hell of a lot to convince that many people to conserve and consume less, to buy less unnecessary items. We are all guilty of buying things we do not need.

Will we ever hit a depression similar to that of the 1930s? Highly unlikely. Too many policies and other safeguards in place to prevent it. We are in a mild recession but I think this is all political. I feel it will change once a new president is elected. That's how this game works.

How can I cure depression without psychiatric help and pills?

This is my second time being depressed. The first time it somehow went away after going back to school.
Depression seems to only happen when I spend an extended amount of time with family and then I leave them.
I don't really want to go to my parents about this, so what can I do to cure it?

Your description indicate what is called "Situational Depression" and is a very common form of depression but not the kind that requires professional help. That is, as long as it doesn't last for weeks on end. There is no "cure" only ways to lesson the impact and perhaps the duration. Hang with positive people. Do things you like to do even if you don't feel like it. Get plenty of sleep, and try to stay busy so you don't dwell on it too much. You will be okay.

How do things that happened during the great depression still effect us today?

Are there families who are still in debt because of the great depression?
Were any products introduced/gotten rid of because of the great depression?
What about governments of different countries, are any of the governments that changed because of the great depression, still what they changed to?

Thanks :]

How do you battle depression that starts when you quit smoking?

I am on anti-depressants to help alleviate the depression, but it keeps getting worse. I finally succeeded in quitting smoking, but I feel worse now than I did for the eleven years that I smoked. I've been exercising and eating right to. I just don't know what else to do.

A cigarette usually helps.

To Volunteer at a Depression Hotline- What training is necessary, and how exactly is it structured?

Hi
I am very interested in pursuing a volunteer job at a depression hotline. I was just curious to know if anyone has had any experience with this- I'd love to hear about your experience.

Also, although I don't know the specifics, I'm sure there's some sort of training involved in order to know how to deal with certain situations and such (They can't let just any random yahoo come off the streets to do this job). I'm curious as to what sort of training would be involved, and what kind of red tape I would need to get through in order to acquire a position like this. Thanks!

Hi! I'm not sure what the qualifications are, but if you call the hotline you are interested in working with and ask to volunteer, I'm sure they could send you either some information or tell you who to contact. You could also contact your local Community Mental Health agency, just look in the phone book.

This is a great thing you are wanting to do, and I wish you all the best with it. As someone who has dealt with depression, I know how valuable a good listener and postive reinforcer are to helping you get out of the blackness.

Should I pull that tooth out or not?

3 weeks ago I went to the dentist with a toothache and I was told that the tooth was dark and most of the roots out. So he gave me some antibiotics and I was supposed to get it pulled out. But The tooth stopped hurting so I put everything on hold. 3 days ago it started to hurt again. Now I found out that I have sinuses issues. So I got some homeopathic remedies and the tooth now stopped hurting. Should I still pulled out th4e tooth? The question is : Is the tooth infected and triggering sinuses issues? Or the sinuses issues bothering my tooth? What should I do ? Thanks for your time.

PS: Can it heals naturally?

sinusitis is always triggerring pain in upper molars and premolars
sometimes u get pain even in healthy teeth when u have sinusitis
so the pain that started 3 days ago mostly triggered by the sinus inflamation
but u still need to extract that tooth cos it will never heal naturally
the case will be worser and worser

Natural Healing for Lymes Disease on a dog?

My 5 month old puppy got diagnosed with Lymes yesterday, he is taking antibiotics for 4- 6 weeks, are there any natural remedies, homeopathic remedies that might help in conjunction with the antibiotics?
Will the antibiotics be harmful for such of a long time??
He came with Lymes from the breeder, it is very sad!

Look into a product called Carnivora. It has been proven to successfully treat Lyme's disease in humans. Give your dog a lesser dose than is recommended for humans (based on the dog's weight). Carnivora is a fabulous product derived from the Venus Flytrap plant…I take it every day!

Good luck!

How to get over depression without use of prescription drugs?

I had a baby 8 months ago and was monitored because of post-partum depression. While that has gone away, I seem to have become severly depressed from things other than the baby. I lack any motivation to do things, even eating is a struggle. I do eat but usually not until I have been starving for hours. I just don't want to get up until it's so bad that I'm in pain. I at one point had to get treatment for panic disorder. It was gone for awhile but is back again. My main problem is not being able to become motivated enough to do daily activities. I know exercise will help me but I can't do that when I have no energy.

I hate prescriptions. Please don't suggest any of those to me. Any herbal or natural remedies would be great though. Thanks.

You could look into acupuncture, Tui Na massage, reflexology or Shiatsu, they can all lift me from the dolldrums.
Aromatherapy oils and chinese herbal medicine can be helpful too.
And will power … a lot of it …

What are some natural ways to treat depression and anxiety?

I have been living with extreme depression for years. In 2007 I experienced my first bout of panic attacks and anxiety developed as well as hypochondria. I won’t take western medication unless I absolutely have to. So instead I look more towards natural methods of healing. What are some ways to help control and prevent depression, anxiety, panic attacks and especially hypochondria? Advice, personal experience and links are welcome! Thanks!

I lived with depression for decades, tried different kinds of anti-depressants, but nothing seemed to work until I tried St. John’s wort. I’m still upset that no doctor thought to try it in that time, it’s usually the first thing tried in Europe rather than expensive medication.

I wasn’t expecting anything at all, but the effects were immediate and dramatic. I had been living with depression for so long, I didn’t remember what not being depressed was like. I remember thinking, “So this is what anti-depressants are supposed to do.”

I also take Valerian root and melatonin for sleep and depression and fish oil which promotes brain function and has tons of positive physical effects. At the same time, I quit using vegetable oil and margarine, switched to canola or olive oil and real butter.

How would an economic depression change our lives?

Like many others, I can’t comprehend the affects of a depression on our familiar day to day routines. How will this affect the middle class disabled Americans that rely on Social Security and Long term disability income? Questions that really hit home with me.

The biggest Impact the depression had on people in the 1930's was that with a 25% unemployment rate and most families only having only a single earner many families were left with no income because there was no unemployment benefits. If your income is from SS you will do much better than the average person because you have a stable income, so would not be effected much. The government is very unlikely to cut off benefits for disabled people.
