My baby is 6 weeks old. I don't feel like I have just the baby blues anymore. I'm going to talk to my ob about it this week but I have no idea what to expect. Will he send me for therapy? Or will he prescribe antidepressants? Is there a certain medication out there for postpartum depression or one commonly used? Does it work? Can it possibly go away on it's own?
The most common way to help PPD is light therapy. But, there are a lot of options and your DR should be talking to you about all of them. Medication should be a last resort. =)

a helpful way is to let all around you know YOU NEED HELP so tell them to step it up put on their supportive shoes cause you need to be right before you can be the right mom, so just breathe and know this too shall pass, bless you on this journey, big hugs

Therapy and/or meds are the usual ways of treating PPD. I had a severe case after the birth of my daughter, and was in therapy then realized that I had to start on meds, the therapy alone wasn't enough for me. I was hospitalized at one point due to such a desperation mode.
I'm glad that you are going to speak with your ob/gyn, good for you for recognizing that you need help. I assure you, you WILL find yourself feeling better again. It may take time, but it will happen.
Normally the first medication tried is Zoloft. Everyone is different, naturally, so what may work for one person might not necessarily work on you. I was on many different meds throughout my treatment. For a while, something did work, then eventually the dosage needed to be increased, and then another medication had to be tried. It was a long struggle for me, but I finally came back out into the "light", so to speak.
No, PPD cannot go away on its own, especially if serious.
I wish you all the best.
