What are the signs of depression?

I have been sleeping… sleeping… and sleeping way too much these days. As if everything tires me out. I heard somewhere that this could be a symptom of depression but I need to know. How do I know if I'm depressed? What doctor do I go to do get diagnosed properly?
Guys, thanks for all your answers so far… really appreciate it! Am not sad at all though but the other symptoms apply. Was thinking it could be burnout from work.

A psychiatrist I think. However, if you sleep a lot, you could just be fatigued. I sleep a lot as well but it's because I'm exhausted from work.References :

  5. Brian Said,

I would consult a psychotherapist. But are you feeling sad? Have you lost concern for things that you used to like? Do you feel withdrawn? It may be a form of mild depression, but it may be something else. Still, I would see a psychotherapist to be on the safe side, since you did ask about depression as being a possibility. Good luck either way! :) larsonblocklin@yahoo.comReferences :

Go and see a GP who will send you to a speciallist if you need one. It may be something simple like an allergic reaction or vitamin deficiency.References :

Thyroid? Low-blood sugar? Chronic fatigue? Any good doctor should be able to give you an idea of what your problem is and then if you need to see a specialist in a particular medical field, you will be referred to one who hopefully can help you to feel better.References :
