Teen depression has grown loads in the past decade, why?

I think that it is up to the public to demand from the government a way to help the depressed people!!
Im doing research any help would be great

Teens have more responsibility these days and everything has gotten more competitive.

It's grown so much because kids are being made fun of for how they look, act, who they hang out with, etc. They have to deal with break-ups, fights with friends, problems at home. Kids can't handle all of that, and they get depressed.

people weren't as depressed when we had our own fields and had to grow our own foods.

people weren't as depressed when we had to get everywhere using horses.

people weren't as depressed when we didn't have cars, straighteners, mobile phones, televisions etc.

i think a lot of our problems stem from technology and knowledge. i mean, 200 years ago we weren't struggling with rapidly rising obesity figures.

The absolute wrong thing to do is to look to the government. We need to get away from the mentality that seeks a nanny state.

The society we live in seems to misunderstand what depression really is. The ones who do vehemently deny having any problems themselves and abuse drugs, alcohol, their spouse, or subordinates in order to compensate for their own condition. Depression may have it's roots so far back in childhood the depressed person has no conchies memory of it whereas a better environment would have made a great deal of difference in the adult they became. This may make no sense until you really think it over, but it's one of my firm beliefs!

In my opinion, increase in teen depression caused by:
Disintigration of traditional family as a unit
Incredible peer pressure to do things that are not really
socially acceptable, especially for a teen
Poor role models in community, entertainment, sports,
    education
Failure of parents and others to see and encourage
    positive behaviours and activities.
    Boredom

I don't see this as something a government can or should
address. I think we need a "grassroots" movement to
recapture the mores and morales of the 1940's & '50's.
I wouldn't want to "give up" many of the improvements in
life and lifestyles. Still, I am painfully aware of how
dearly we have paid for our progress. i..e. – we can put a
man on the moon, but we can't figure out how to help
him be a good husband and a good father.
